Carpenter’s Hatchet Sheath and Frog

Snaps could easily be replaced by stitching if one preferred.

This is a pair of items recently finished at the request of a friend. It’s a fairly common hatchet style, so I figured some folks might like to have the templates to make their own. I included PDF and JPG links at the bottom. Unfortunately, the scanner cut off the bottom of the image, but the important ones are there. I didn’t take any photos of the build process, but it should be pretty easy to figure out how to assemble the gear from the photos and templates. There are six pieces total; three for the sheath are the sheath body, strap, and welt. Frog pieces are the axe loop, belt loop, and frog strap. In the template photo, the sheath strap is not pictured as it’s opposite the frog strap.

  • Axe loop- 3.5 x 13.5 cm
  • Belt loop- 4.5 x 20 cm
  • Sheath strap- 28 cm long, wide as you’d like
  • Frog strap- 17 cm long, wide as you’d like

I haven’t tried scanning and uploading templates before, so I hope it’s useful to you. “BX” was simply my designation for this project.
